A Green County man whose body was found in his home on Wednesday died “as the result of a violent act,” the Green County Sheriff’s Department reported Saturday. That conclusion is based on preliminary results of an autopsy and investigation of the crime scene, according to a news release. The sheriff’s department previously characterized the death of Mark C. Tobin, 38, as a homicide but had not said how he died. Sheriff Randy Roderick would disclose little more about the case Saturday morning. He would not say what kind of weapon was used on Tobin. An acquaintance found Tobin’s body at his residence at W7574 Highway 39 on Wednesday afternoon. The residence is in York Township, which is in the northwest corner of the county, about 6 miles west of New Glarus. Roderick reiterated his statement that he doesn’t believe residents in the area are in any danger from the person or persons who killed Tobin. Roderick would not say why he believes that is so, because doing so might jeopardize the investigation.
