Milton Township approves levy increase
Milton Township residents approved a 33 percent levy increase Tuesday night after more than two hours of debate.
The town is allowed to raise the levy that much because debt service isn't included in state levy limits, Chairman Bryan Meyer said. The town took out a $92,000 loan in June that it must pay back in 2008.
Much of the debate centered on whether the levy increase was legal, considering the town plans to pay the loan off through its cash reserve, not the levy. The residents approved the increased levy only on the condition that the Wisconsin Department of Revenue confirms its legality.
