The Janesville School Board meets in a special closed session today to receive an update on contract negotiations from the district's lead negotiator.

Superintendent Tom Evert says the school board hopes to schedule a mediation session with the state mediator and the Janesville Education Association's negotiators. The board will also review its offer to the JEA and talk about overall strategy as they put together the "jigsaw puzzle" of teacher concerns.

Evert says JEA president Dave Parr has not discussed the possibility of further job actions with the district. Evert says it would be disappointing if Janesville students are shortchanged in any way due to the fact that contract negotiations have gone on so long.

Evert says he hopes both sides can sit down with the mediator in early December.

He says the board's negotiating team offered to meet in October and November, but didn't receive a response from the mediator or JEA.
