Lakeland School appeal argument online
Oral arguments from the Disability Rights Wisconsin vs. Walworth County lawsuit can be heard online here.
The arguments were made Friday, Nov. 9, at the United States Appeals Court in Chicago.
Disability Rights Wisconsin is suing Walworth County for building a bigger school for children with disabilities. DRW believes the move violates Americans with Disabilities Act standards by further segregating children with disabilities from society.
A U.S. District Court judge in Milwaukee dismissed the suit originally because DRW did not have anyone who was injured by the existence of Lakeland School since no child is forced to go there.
The appellate hearing included an argument by DRW attorney Jeffrey Spitzer-Resnick followed by an argument by attorney Ron Stadler, who is representing Walworth County. Questions by appellate judges are filtered in.
