The 2008 Walworth County budget passed 20-5 Tuesday night after several hours of debate.

The taxed portion of the budget is $54.75 million, about 4.81 percent more than this year.

The county tax on a $200,000 home is $781.29.

Soaring employee health care costs are attributed to the rising county taxes.

Despite the increase, the average tax rate went down about 5 percent because of increased equalized in the county.
