Cause of fatal fire ruled undetermined
A report from the state's arson bureau narrowed possible causes in a fire that killed Julaine Houfe at her home at 6104 County N, Milton, on Aug. 31 but left the official cause as "undetermined."
The report listed two causes it had not ruled out: that Houfe accidentally started the fire through careless smoking, or that she intentionally started it to prevent her estranged husband from getting the house.
Investigators ruled out accidental causes, other than those involving human action, and concluded there was no evidence anyone besides Houfe was involved.
