The Janesville City Council holds a public hearing at tonight's meeting directly before voting on its proposed 2008 city and library budgets. At a recent budget study session, Fire Chief Larry Grorud told the council he hopes to cut down on overtime in the budget by hiring two firefighter paramedics. If the budget is approved as-is, the average taxpayer will hand over almost $18 more in city taxes next year. City Manager Steve Sheiffer is already bracing for a tighter budget in 2009.
