BELOIT — Senator Judy Robson is using Beloit Fire Headquarters Monday as a backdrop to introduce legislation on fire-safe cigarettes.

Beloit Fire Chief Brad Liggett says 22 other states have similar legislation. He says this legislation mirrors what those states are doing so tobacco companies do not have to make several different types of cigarettes. A fire-safe cigarette burns at cooler temperatures and goes out if someone's not inhaling on it.

Opponents to the legislation say it's just one more way lawmakers are trying to save people from themselves.
