A Milton High School student is suing the school district after suffering a gym class injury a year ago.

Scott Schroeder, attorney for the Juhl family, says the girl was climbing an indoor rock wall when the strap holding a pulley broke, causing the student to fall 10 to 15 feet to the gym floor. Schroeder says the student's feet landed half-on the floor mat, which caused her to fall backwards and break her tailbone on the bare gym floor. Schroeder says the family wanted to settle at the time of the injury, but the school district was not interested. The district's business manager, Diane Meyer, says the case is in the discovery stage and information has been turned over to the district's insurance company.

The family is suing the district for the maximum $50,000 allowed under state law.
