Senate passes anti-bully bill
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Schools would be required to adopt anti-bullying policies by August 15 under a bill that passed the state Senate today on a voice vote. The state Department of Public Instruction would be required to develop a model policy by March first that defines bullying and provides penalties. The bill also creates Bullying Awareness on the fourth Wednesday in September. The proposal heads to the Assembly for its consideration. It must pass there and be signed by Governor Jim Doyle before it becomes law. The bill previously passed the Senate in 2005 but died in an Assembly committee.
