Ceremonial start to school project
JANESVILLE
Groundbreaking ceremonies at Craig and Parker high schools went off without a hitch this morning.
Speakers repeatedly thanked the voters for approving the $70.8 million referendum. The vote occurred one year ago today. At the time it was the largest school referendum amount in state history, but other districts have approved bigger projects since then.
Construction has already begun but is expected to intensify in the weeks ahead, adding noise and traffic congestion around both schools.
“It’ll be exciting to see the changes that’ll happen,” said Craig sophomore Declan Boran-Ragotzy.
Today’s juniors and seniors will graduate before the project is completed, but Declan and other sophomores and freshmen will enjoy the improved facilities, as will students in lower grades, pre-schoolers and children not yet born.

I was NOT one of those who voted for the "big historic spending" referendum. To me it's a waste of money. At a time when the school board is considering cutting classes, Teachers, and other programs because of lack of money, Then what justifies new buildings? Though I didn't vote for this, I wonder why the school board hires the most expensive company, JP Cullen? Why couldn't a cheaper company have been given the job? Something is aloof in that. They just keep on driving up the school taxes for us to pay and make the rich richer. The board never really listens to the families that are struggling to make a living just because they are the "upper class" and have life so grand!
