JANESVILLE With two months to go, positive October sales of the full-size sport utility vehicles made in Janesville helped General Motors in its race to surpass last year’s level of sales. In October, GM sold 8,317 Chevy Suburbans and 16,066 Chevy Tahoes, up 15.3 percent and 26.8 percent, respectively, over similar product sales in October 2006. GMC Yukon XL sales of 4,764 and Yukon deliveries of 7,706 were 8 percent and 22.1 percent ahead of October 2006. GM plants in Janesville, Arlington, Texas and Silao, Mexico build the four vehicles. On a combined basis, GM has sold 289,324 of the big trucks through Oct. 31. While sales of Suburban and Yukon XL are ahead of last year’s pace, Tahoe and Yukon are trailing. For all of 2006, GM delivered 355,591 Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukon XLs and Yukons. That puts the automaker 81 percent of the way to last year’s sales level.
