Janesville man sentenced on drug charge
A Janesville man is sentenced to life in prison for distributing crack cocaine. Police say in January and February 2006, 32-year-old Jerome G. Hughes sold 48 grams of crack cocaine to a police informant. At his sentencing, U.S. District Judge John Shabaz determined that, in addition to selling up to 4.5 kilograms of crack cocaine over the past five years, Hughes also was the leader of a criminal enterprise and made a phone call during his case threatening to kill the witnesses against him. Hughes is the 50th person convicted of federal drug and firearms crimes based on a long-term investigation by the Rock County Safe Streets Task Force.
