Team to focus on homeless students
A new action team is formulating ideas to help the parents of Janesville's homeless students become more involved in their children's schools.
Volunteer Coordinator Lisa Hinds says one of the ideas is to provide transportation to and from parent-teacher conferences. She says the school district will also focus on a mentor program to help homeless students get through school and increase attendance. One of the challenges for the program is keeping track of the parents as they move between homeless shelters.
The group will begin meeting in January.
