Shooting victim remains in serious condition
ROCKFORD—A Clinton woman remains in serious condition at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, after being shot Dec. 18.
Marilyn Smith, 58, was shot by her son-in-law, Timothy Harrington, at 6:50 p.m. at a home at 207 Mill St., Clinton.
A Clinton police officer and a Rock County Sheriff’s Department deputy then fatally shot Harrington.
Up to four of Harrington’s children were in the house at the time and were in “great peril,” Sheriff Bob Spoden said.
The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is studying the incident.

SANDO76,
You are so right! The media in this country is eroding our culture! Our generations, because of the content of TV, radio, printed publications etc. are disconnected from reality these days. There is no "truth" anymore. Like you say, as tragic of an event this has been on Harrington's wife and kids, he's still someone's son and still someone's father! It's so easy to condemn and criticize when we need look only in our own backyard! An old story once said, there was a man who constantly complained about his feet. They hurt, they were sore they bothered him day in and day out. Then, one day he met someone who had no feet at all....... he never complained again. God Bless

I think what people forget before judging this man is that at one point he was probably a pretty amazing husband, father, friend and son. Mental Illness is a terrible disease, unfortunate it ended this way for he and his family, but with the right support they will start to heal. It is easy to throw stones, but remember, would you want your kids reading these rude comments about you or your spouse during a time like this when they are so torn and confused? Lets try to keep the rude comments about this situation to a minimal for the family that is mourning. Many people are praying for the Harringtons.

I live with someone one who has struggled with mental illness for years. My son. He has the biggest heart. BUT when he gets into a rage he is a very scary person. He is on medication and sees a therapist. But things change all the time with him. There is such a stigma when some one says not mentally well, or not mentally fit. People who have mental issues did not ask for this illness anymore than someone who has cancer. IT IS NOT A CHOICE. The incident is Clinton is truly unfortunate and tragic.
What is really sad is before the end of this year we hit the max for insurance coverage for his mental health. We had pay out of pocket fo his dr.appts and medicines. YET is he had a physical ailment he would have been covered. Something very wrong with our system.
It is a daily struggle for many. Society needs to open its eyes and address the issues.

Bless your heart BrodheadMommy. Tim's parents are dear friends of mine. I was at the visitation the other day. The entire family is hurting right now. General consensus is that the media has done a disgrace to cases such as this. I've worked in mental health and know the extent of those suffering. Unfortunately, there is still a horrible stigma to it. Please continue to pray for the entire family. I know the entire family, including Michelle, was reminded that Tim is in a much better place. Unfortunately, the situation came to this. And continue to pray for the kids and their maternal grandma's healing!!

Mental Illness is a terrible thing to have, and this is a devistating example of what it can do to people, both to the infected and to innocent bystanders. I pray that you Harrington children find peace in your hearts and know that your father is finally at peace. And I pray for your grandmother makes a speedy recovery.
