Teen pleads innocent in OWI homicide case
Krystal Hart, a Genoa City teenager, pleaded innocent today to a charge of homicide by intoxicated driving.
The 16-year-old is suspected of having a blood-alcohol-level of 0.12 percent on the early morning hours of Nov. 3, when she reportedly drove her northbound car in the southbound lane of County H in Como.
Her Mercury Sable struck and oncoming Chevy Beretta driven by Everardo Chimal-Lopez, 54, of Delavan. Chimal-Lopez, a Mexican immigrant working for a local landscaping company, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Hart, a junior at Badger High School in Lake Geneva, will have a status conference on Feb. 20. A trial date would likely be set then if a plea agreement is not reached.

ihavealife, I feel for what happened to your brother. It must have been really horrible. I still maintain that if you drink and drive and kill someone, Then the offender should suffer the consequences and go to jail. Simple as that! No plea deals, No mercy. Just go to jail and suffer and think of what happened because of drinking and driving.

mymaro is correct. No one pleads guilty at her initial appearance. (By the way, Mike Heine, no one pleads "innocent" either. The plea is "not guilty," and "not guilty" does not equal "innocent." If you're going to write a news account, at least be accurate.) Maybe she'll plead guilty or no contest some day and maybe not. I'm not defending the girl -- if she is guilty she should go to jail -- but remember, our system requires the State to prove she is guilty. Public opinion based on newspaper accounts is not enough to convict someone.

I really hope that no one took my comment the wrong way and thought I was questioning the immigrant thing. If you look at my comment closely you will see that I think that whether he was an immigrant or not is irrelevent. That girl killed someone because of her irresponsible actions. She didn't mean to do it but she did. She needs to be held responsible.

I view it this way: If you drink, Smoke and drive, And kill someone, Then you do the time. Plain and simple as that! No matter your age or gender.

does it matter if he was illegal, the fact still remains that this girl killed a PERSON, not an illegal, a PERSON, that is it, i dont care if he just arrived 5 minutes before she took someones life and should be held accountable because any adult would have to do the time, she wanted to PRETEND to be an adult and drink: well at that moment she became an adult, plain and simple, agree or not i dont care!!

Mexico is an American country....and I've seen people described by where they were from like, a teenager from Genoa City. Just saying. I've seen in past articles about this a blogger questioning whether this man was a legal resident or not-don't see how that matters. I mean he's a resident of nowhere now because of the Genoa City teenager. I'm sure that's not what you were saying though..

"Mexican immigrant"????? Is he a citizen? A legal resident? I don't understand the purpose of that description. Does any other news article state someones ethnicity like that. Would it have said "An American" if it had been me. Or is that the political correct way of saying an illegal alien. I'm just asking.

Here we go again with this story...I don't understand how she can plead not guilty. like other poster said 16 or 36 she should do jail time
The guy she killed doesnt have the right to life anymore. I'm sorry how many repete offenders do we have doing this? Whats to say she doesnt do it again?

Everybody knows she will get a slap on the hand. If it was me, at 36 yrs old, I would be going to prison. But because she is only 16, oh we will give here a break. Time we start doing things the right way. You kill someone while OWI or DWI then you go to jail. You should never be able to plea out.

You know she will live with this for the rest of her life, but she will have her life. She has got to do some jail time.

Looks like the average plea-deal-in-the-works case. No one would expect a 16-year-old (or any other first-offender) to plea guilty.
