Janesville refines billboards requirements

Janesville's city planners are refining the requirements for new electronic billboards.

For every new electronic billboard a company would need to remove one of its non-conforming static billboards, says Gale Price, manager of building and development services. The non-conforming billboards are typically in residential neighborhoods. The city could waive that requirement for companies that don't have many billboards in Janesville because the city doesn't want to put companies at a competitive disadvantage.

A moratorium on new electronic billboards expires February 27.

Easier to ask for forgivness than ask for permission. Lamar did the right thing with the billboards. If they would have asked, the red tape would have been rediculous. They put the electronic ones up and they look nice. Too bad for Brad Cantrell and staff...They snuck it buy you. YAHOO!

This is good. The billboard company snuck these in under the city's radar. If they want one of these (which is perfectly fine with me), they should get rid of a sign that was grandfathered in and would not be allowed today.

I went to Kissimmee, FL in 2005 and all they have is the electronic billboard. They r better then the other ones. The ones that dont like them are people that dont like to change. Time to get over it.

Another example of the control freaks in government trying to control more of our lives. If they can't stop some activity from occurring at least they do their best to control it by regulating it.

So LOCAL billboard companies should take down a old billboard that was promoting a LOCAL bussiness so they can put up a new modern billboard to help reconize LOCAL bussiness. OK?

I wish all the billboards were taken down. I don't like the visual pollution.
