UNDATED (AP) - A Madison cable company says it's shocked and saddened by the death of one of its employees, killed in Illinois.

Thirty-four-year-old Clinton Shaw of Stoughton died yesterday while doing utility work along a roadway near Rockford.

Authorities say he was struck by a car driven by a 20-year-old Illinois woman. She is being held for a probation violation on a previous drunken driving conviction.

The Winnebago County, Illinois Sheriff's Department says Shaw was working outside his utility truck when he was hit about 4:00 a.m.

This man left behind a wife of many years and a little girl. Both have lost so much with his passing, not to mention right at Christmas time. Please pray for his family.

mikki.i agree. if a man was to stike and kill one of those men out on the job working. and the man had just happened to already be in probation violation because of a recent drunken driving. then im pretty sure they would charge him with vehicular manslaughter.i mean come on we all have equal rights.then if so why not be convicted of the same charge?

Oh, antigeorge... they're called flatlanders! Way to go, genius. Here's to hoping you're not actively working on keeping your idiot gene in circulation. And I agree with tiredofwhining. There is no shortage of idiots anywhere. If anything, it's an epidemic! They're everywhere!!!

But in all seriousness, someone died here. It doesn't matter where the person who did it is from. I bet you'd be insulted, antigeorge, if some made the statement you did but about Wisconsinites instead. Be nice. It's the holidays. Maybe you should be send your condolences instead of attacking a whole state of people who have done nothing but chosen to call Illinois their home.

From a fellow Wisconsinite. =D

This actually happened in Roscoe IL, yeah it was 4am, there have been no confirmed reports that the driver was drunk YET. Also to back up the 2nd comment about the truck having flashing lights. Yes they do, bright yellow strobe lights not to mention 4ft tall orange traffic cones with reflective stripes on them. Being that I work for Charter and know for a fact that he would have has his safety vest on and even better than that he wore a safety reflective hoodie. This is pure stupidity on that womans part. Its a damn shame that people dont realize that for people like us that work outside is just the same as them being at work in their office! How would they feel if I came blasting past their desk at 45 MPH or faster? I may work outside but thats my office so how about a little respect? We're just out there trying to do our jobs to feed our families just like you! The true sad part is all of this just days before Christmas, it's heartbreaking. Bottom line when you see us out there working for god's sake SLOW DOWN!!

Not sure what a "Flandlander" is, but if you are refering to people who live in Il you should really take a look around you. There's not a shortage of idiots in Wi or any other state for that matter.

Just another "pride and joy" of Flandlander keeping the idiot gene in circulation!

It actually says "probation violation on a previous drunken driving conviction", not necessarily that she was drunk at the time. But since it was 4:00am that would be a good guess! Utility trucks normally have flashing yellow lights so they're easy to see - whether she was drunk or not she sure wasn't careful.

My condolences to the family of the victim. And if the driver was indeed drunk, she will likely face some serious prison time so there's another family that will be affected.

What is with these drunk drivers???? They don't get a scratch, and they kill innocent people just trying to do their jobs. This makes me so angry!!!!
