Couple gives $175 million for college scholarships
UNDATED (AP) - A couple who graduated from UW Madison more than 50 years ago is giving $175 million dollars to help public high school graduates advance their education.
The gift from John and Tashia Morgridge will provide grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to about 2,000 students enrolling in the state's public colleges, universities and technical schools.
UW Madison Chancellor John Wiley says eligibility will likely be targeted at families earning less than about $50,000 a year.
John Morgridge is the former chairman of Cisco Systems. Tashia Morgridge is a retired elementary special education teacher.
They plan to announce the scholarship program at Green Bay West High School today. The couple now lives in California. They both graduated from UW Madison in 1955.
The gift is thought to be one of the largest philanthropic donations in state history.

I think that it is great that these people are helping young people attend college. They are going to need the money to keep paying the bloated salaries and benefits of the college administration. If they can even find someone to take the chancellor's job at the paltry annual benefit of less than $500,000.
