The Evansville police officer cited for disorderly conduct after a bar fight in Milton is no longer employed by the police department effective today, Police Chief Scott McElroy said.

McElroy declined further comment on the departure of Officer Jason Grooms. Grooms started as a part-time officer in Evansville in February 2006 and switched to full time in March 2007, McElroy said.

“He was a good officer,” he said.

McElroy will work with city administration and the police commission to appoint a new full-time officer, he said.

Grooms, 30, of 522 Lombard Drive, Milton, was one of four people cited or arrested at 12:15 a.m. Dec. 10, after a fight at Klub Bub Bar, 46 Merchant Row, Milton, according to Milton police.

Officer Grooms was let go. That is what is best for the city of Evansville. Maybe grooms will take this time and evaluate his attitude and life.

How many officers has Evansville lost from resigning or quitting in the past few years. I can see Officer Grooms being let go but what about the other officers in the past?

Police Chief Scott McElroy is back from vacation obviously. I believe the posting by smalltowngirl, stating there were video cameras that showed what "really" happen that night, were a BIG factor in this!
How sad to be jobless over something so stupid as getting an alcoholic drink.
Good Riddens Officer Grooms!

Although we don't know the whole story, my heart goes out to Jason and his family during the holiday season.
