The City of Janesville has declared a snow emergency starting at 3 p.m. today.

A snow emergency is declared when plowing is scheduled. Once the city of Janesville has declared a snow emergency, vehicles must be moved from streets and parking lots until the street or parking lot has been plowed and cleared of snow.

To determine if a snow emergency has been declared:

-Listen to radio station WCLO 1230 AM or WJVL 99.9 FM.

-Check the Gazette’s Web site: www.gazettextra.com.

-Visit the city of Janesville Web site, www.ci.janesville.wi.us.

-Join the snow emergency e-mail alert list. To sign up, go to the city’s Web site and go to the tab on the left side of the page labeled “e-mail lists.”

-Call the snow hotline (608) 755-SNOW (7669).

Do not call 911.

The best place to park during a snow emergency is in your garage or driveway. If you are unable to park in a garage or driveway, park in one of the designated snow emergency parking stalls. These stalls are located in the six downtown municipal parking lots listed below:

-East Wall Street lot at East Wall Street and North Parker Drive.

-Municipal Building lot at West Wall and North Jackson streets.

-South High Street lot at West Court and South High streets.

-Senior Center lot at St. Lawrence Avenue and Water Street.

-Hedberg Public library Lot on Water Street.

-River/Union Street lot at South River and Union streets.

The fine for parking on the street during a snow emergency is $20. The police department might begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing begins.

Kudos to the city DPW!
Our neighborhood, as a matter of fact, all the streets I drove on this morning and last evening were in great shape given the number of snow/ice events we've had in a short period of time.
(I live in the vicinity of Memorial/Milton Ave)

Agreed. Our street (Sandhill Drive) was virtually impassable today. And it hasn't been plowed in at least 4-5 days...probably longer.

You keep saying snow emergency and keep your vehicles off the street. Now the street is almost impassable. What are we paying taxes for? Our street hasn't been plowed during the "snow emergency" this weekend or since.
