Some snowmobile trails are open

Snowmobile trails in the northern half of Rock County are open.

County Parks Director Laurie Williams says the trails that are open are clearly marked. They still need to put up trail signs in the southern half of the county and make sure crops are out of the fields.

The condition of the trails in the northern half of the county are considered "fair" at this time.

Williams reminds snowmobilers to stay on marked trails. She also says ATVs are not allowed on the trails.

I just called the 757-5458 number, and they're open I guess. So looks like I'm going riding this weekend!

My father lives up north and told me this morning that the trails are not open up there due to the deer hunt going on yet. Not sure about down here. I will wait till the 10th though just to be on the safe side.

there are tracks all over the trails on highway 26, so I'm not sure if people are just getting out there or if the trails are officially open. I've seen quite a lot of tracks all over in the ditches. Looks like this may be the season to have a sled!

I have just gotten off of the phone with the DNR. DNR has nothing to do with opening and closing the trails. These are county decisions, not DNR. DNR also gave me the same number for Rock county trail conditions, that I already have. 608-757-5458.

I don't know where Mrs. Williams is getting her information but the trails do not open statewide until after December 10th because of the T-Zone hunt that runs thru the 9th. Before you go snowmobiling you may want to call the DNR, it could save you a ticket.
