Blow up the Bucks
Alright, it's official. I can no longer watch the Milwaukee Bucks play. They play no defense. Their offense is stagnant at best, and Krystkowiak belongs im the WNBA. Please do something with this team. How about going through on the rumored trade with Houston. Bring Yao Ming to Milwaukee to team with Yi and part with Michael Redd among others. The currents Bucks are going nowhere in a very mediocre at best Eastern Conference. Give the fans a reason to come to the Bradley Center.

These days, I haven't watched many of the Bucks' telecasts. I'm a lifelong fan. I rarely miss a Brewers or Packers broadcast. I grew up cheering for the Bucks. If you're like me, it hasn't always been easy. Lately, the team shows up for games, at best. At least they get dressed.
Since I don't catch a lot of games, I trick myself into thinking that the next game I watch might be the big game they win-- like the one against New York the other night. I thought I'd be rewarded with a big victory. It started like a game I thought the Bucks wouldn't lose. Afterall, if a city can produce a Super Bowl champ, they might prove to be a just reward for a hard-fought game of hoops. As it turns out, the Bucks fared no better against the Knicks than the Patriots did against a team from the same city.
If you can't bring back Ray Allen and Glenn Robinson, then you just have to play your heart out. Every play, every quarter, every night. Some years you have talent, other years you just have to play like you're talented. Just go out and play! This means coaches and players. Just play like you did in grade school, high school, and college. And then see what happens. Maybe then, we'll be reminded of the Bucks we used to watch.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I believe Mark Attanasio should step up and buy the Bucks. Now there's an owner who not only puts his money where his mouth is, but already has a proven track record when it comes to breathing life into dying Milwaukee sports franchises.

Uhhhh .... you just figured this out now? You didn't notice the exact same things during the past three or four seasons, when the problems were exactly the same but everyone blamed "injuries" and "the coach."
.
Maybe it's time, as suggested by Michael Hunt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a column with a title eerily similar to this blog post's title, for Herb Kohl to realize he and his "inner circle" have no clue how to run an NBA franchise in this day and age. We're all grateful that he stepped up and bought the team to keep them from moving out of Milwaukee, BUT THAT WAS 22 YEARS AGO!!
.
Since then, all he has done for that franchise and its fan base is tease them with heightened expectations and empty promises. It's easy to do one interview a year and say that the goal is to win, but it's a far different thing to take steps toward doing so. $47 mil for Bobby Simmons? $36 mil for Dan Gadzuric? $90 mil for Michael Redd, the "franchise player" who can't do anything but shoot the 3? (And it's no secret to the opposing team that that's what he'll do come hell or high water). $50-some million for Mo "Gimme the ball so I can chuck it up" Williams, your point guard? Come on.
.
And those are just the horrible decisions the franchise has made in the past two or so years. I could go on and on all day. The point is, in today's NBA, you can't hire a GM because he's your former coach's (and best buddy's) kid who needs a shot. You can't sign a one-dimensional shooting guard who's not a vocal leader to a max contract to be the face of your franchise. And you certainly can't sit on your ivory throne and not be accountable to the fan base who continues to shell out ridiculous amounts of money to watch the horsesh*t you put on the floor, year in and year out.
.
Last, but certainly not least, you can't sit around waiting for the city and/or state to build you a new arena as the "free one" you received 20 years ago ages. Face it, Herb, the Petits are dead and no one is gonna pony up ever again like they did for the Bradley Center. We all appreciate the donation you made to the UW to build the Kohl Center, but maybe that $50 mil gift would have done more for the Bucks, who don't have thousands of wealthy alumni across the country to donate to the cause.
.
There, I feel better now. Imagine what my feelings would be if I actually liked the NBA or gave a crap about the Milwaukee Bucks ....
