Tahoe hybrid on the horizon
Later this week, General Motors will start building hybrid versions of its Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. The vehicles, built at Janesville’s sister plant in Arlington, Texas, will hit dealer lots in December.
The two-mode hybrid Tahoes and Yukons, the industry’s only full-size hybrid SUVs, will use electric motors to directly power the vehicle, as well as a gas engine. The new hybrids claim a 50 percent improvement in fuel efficiency in city driving, with an overall improvement of 31 percent in combined city and highway driving.
So how much will they cost?
Don’t believe the numbers you might have seen on GM’s Web site last month. In its 2008 Model Year Pricing Summary, posted Oct. 5, GM listed the prices of its Chevy Tahoe 4-door two-wheel drive hybrid as $47,915 and its Tahoe four-wheel drive as $50,720. It listed the GMC Yukon two-wheel drive hybrid at $48,370.
But a GM spokesman told The Detroit News on Monday that those prices “were too low.”
“They weren’t right when they were up there, and we’re not sure how they got up there,” he said.
GM is expected to post revised prices sometime next week.

Do you all forget that Honda and Toyota are Japanese companies? Yes, I know they are built here and the Impala and other GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles are built in Canada and Mexico. And yes, Toyota and Honda have helped a lot to impove the living conditions of the US cities in which they are located. However, the bulk of the money still goes to JAPAN!! Have you not seen the news lately? Ford is going down like the Titanic, mostly because of people like you that think that Toyota and Honda are good for the US. Impala is still twice the car that the Camry is, look at the quality numbers!!

Ski 1357, it doesn't matter if you buy an "American vehicle". Most American vehicles have parts imported from other nations, so "American vehicles" aren't exactly 100% American. And there is nothing wrong with supporting Toyota or Honda. Toyota has several factories in the United States and the factories and the workers both help to support the American economy. I suggest that you not be so ignorant and realize the necessity of non-American companies within the U.S. economy.

Why are you even thinking about the Toyota Corrolla/Honda Accord. Buy American!!!!!! There is nothing wrong with an American vehicle. You can get in a Chevy Impala and get 30mpg. The Impala, even the base model, is twice the car vs. the Corrolla or the Accord.

Malibu rehashed? I think it looks pretty sharp. As far as an answer to the Toyota Corrolla/Honda Accord check out the GM website and look at the Chevy Volt. I think GM is/has come a long way on their designs and innovations.

C'mon GM. Where's a Cobalt hybrid? Any answers yet to the Toyota Corrolla/Honda Accord? A rehashed Malibu is not an answer.
