I just checked -- the island itself is federal land (which is normal for islands located within the riverbed of navigable rivers). If the county were to pass a resolution endorsing the naming, though, it could be passed to the Board on Geographic Names. I'm also wondering what could be done to make this island more accessible; a bridge, certainly, and possibly an easement across private land.
.
The island is a typical peninsular meander that has now been cut off by the river, and geologically will eventually leave a main channel (the cutoff) and an ox-bow lake (the former meander), which on an even longer time scale is likely to fill in and disappear. The island appears more or less as such as early as the 1858 Plat Book for Rock County, so it's been there quite a while, but I couldn't find any indication that it was ever previously named.

Love it! Congrats on your island. That spider was too creepy for me, though.

The island resembles you Glen, with its trees stretched out ,ever reaching over the banks, yeah, that's you. Congratulations, however, remember, " no man is an island" ( hee-hee).

Glen, the county should truly make it official on maps and other documents.

That was great Glen, you deserve having an island named after you.

Heck yes. And being "alive to enjoy it" trumps that fancy posthumous stuff any day of the week.

I like it. And kudos to quick wit of county employee.
