Video: When our immigrant ancestors landed in New York and Gershwin wrote Rhapsody
A two-part series. This week, film and music from the 1920's with a brief look at immigrants pouring into America at the time. Next week is completely dedicated to our immigrant ancestors with the documentry: "Island of Hope--Island of Tears." From 1892-1954, Ellis Island was the port of entry for millions of European immigrants. Fascinating archival footage tells the moving story of families with dreams of opportunity, leaving their homes with what they could carry.

And especially the govt that provides free education and medical care. And the president who now, because he caters for the vote, thru his executive orders blesses some of the illegals with special privileges like giving them a work permit to take some of those jobs you are talking about.

What it all boils down to is business interests. They like the cheap labor that the illegals provide. The illegals can't complain, they don't have to be provided with health insurance, just a few dollars an hour and nothing more.
Those who allow this and those who employ illegals are throwing you, the American citizen away. You are expensive pieces of crap to them. They can employ illegals for a few dollars an hour, it is better than slave labor to them. With slaves, they have to provide housing, medical, and food. With illegals, a few dollars an hour will do it. You the taxpayer provide the medical for them. It is a bad deal for U.S. citizens, a bad deal for the illegals and a good deal for the criminals who employ illegals.

donnaw: I agree, they would be shocked at how lax our enforcement has become. There is a double standard that exists today between Mexican border jumpers and all other immigrants. I know at least two legal immgrants (asian and european) that spent years going through all the legal hoop before they finally became LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS. They can't believe they are forced to do things the right way and the Obama administration wants to give a free pass to our neighbors south of the border. It is hardly fair. Why even have immigration rules if nobody is going to enforce them?
For those who say we shouldnt worry about illegal immigration because America was founded by immigrants is missing the major point: our ancesters came into America LEGALLY. You may say early settlers weren't very moral when they pushed the native Americans aside, but at least they werent breaking any laws. Laws are laws and should be followed. It is sickening to hear illegals say how fearful they are of being caught. GO HOME and you wont have to fear being caught. It really is that simple.

Great old pictures! Too bad it didn't show the immigrants being processed thru Ellis Island. We toured Ellis Island last summer and it was interesting what those legal immigrants had to go thru to be admitted to this country in those days. Now we just let the illegals sneak over the border and we support many of their needs, education, medical, food, housing. Those immigrants in this video would be shocked.
