What if your nest NEVER emptied?
I have special friends, who are part of Special Olympics. Many of them live with their parents, because there are no other housing options for them.
Some live with their parents because it is perfect for their families, and I have great respect for that. But what about those who would like to live away from mom or dad, and cannot - and what about mom or dad, who dream of an empty nest?
The waiting list for assisted housing is crazy huge and my friends, and their friends, seem to be overlooked by society.
So today, I'm happy for the extra room I finally have, and for my child who is growing into a really cool man.
I'm also heading to Best Events for the Special Olympics Spaghetti fundraiser from 11-2 today. I am excited for the hugs, joy and smiles of my special friends.

She volunteers at her church, with the Optimist club and SpotLight On Kids. Becky is a community blogger and her opinion is not necessarily that of the Janesville Gazette staff or management.

You are right, it is MD. When I wrote the post, I kept thinking, is it MS or is it MD? I couldn't remember. Sorry for the confusion.

Justme-
Obviously I could be wrong as I don't know the boy but I would guess the little boy your sister takes care of has MD (Muscular Dystrophy) not MS (Multiple Sclerosis). I know it may seem like it's just one letter difference, but it actually is pretty significant.
MD is a neuromuscular disease in which muscles typically waste away through time where as MS affects the brain and spinal cord which results in loss of muscle control.
There are many different kids of MD as well, Duchenne, Becker, Limb-girdle, Emery-Dreifuss, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and more.
I'm not trying to be petty, just trying to inform. :) I have muscular dystrophy and when I mention this to people so many people say "Oh you have MS (even nurses!) so I thought maybe I'd clarify the difference.
Again like I said though, I could be wrong and the boy could have MS, so if that is the case, I'm sorry! :)

My sister runs an adult family home and she loves it. One guy has been with her for well over 5 years. He has autism. I envy these people who run these homes with their great patience that they have. I could not see my sister doing anything else though. She also takes care of a little boy with MS. It is people like her that the world needs more of!
