Support group off to successful start

By GINA DUWE ( Contact )   Thursday, May 28, 2009 - 5:16 p.m.

A couple months ago I wrote this story about an Evansville woman who wanted to start a chronic illness support group.

Sherri Savchuk sent me an e-mail this week to say the group is off to a great start. She received a great deal of interest from Janesville residents and held an informal meet & greet there. Her goal, though, was to have the group meet in Evansville, so she's planning a meet & greet here to get the word out.

Here's the details: 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the senior center, 320 Fair St., Evansville. Anyone suffering with illness or pain, including caregivers of the ill and those from surrounding areas, are encouraged to attend.

Depending on the interest Sherri receives in Evansville, she said she may end up alternating meetings between Evansville and Janesville.

I am the one forming the support group and greatly appreciate all of the encouraging comments I have received! Thank you! After holding Meet & Greets in both Evansville and Janesville it seems that both cities have a need, although Janesville has the greater. Regular meetings should be scheduled for Janesville, and hopefully Evansville, soon, so check the Gazette for updates. I believe my email and/or phone number was included in the story Gina wrote in March, so feel free to contact me. I can put you on my mailing list and then you'll be sure not to miss anything. I also appreciate hearing what it is that folks need and hope to receive from a group like this. We are still in the planning stages so this is a great time to pass along your ideas or concerns. Keep Look'in Up! Sherri

Way to go, Sherri! That is quite a commitment to our peers! I may just as well come as it sounds like a beautiful opportunity! Heck, I'll drive to Evansville!
