A new place to stay

Construction on the city’s only hotel is “cruising right along,” the developer says.

I talked to Mark Pomerenke, president of development of Cobblestone Inn & Suites, who said the 31-room hotel should be opening in July.

If you haven’t seen the construction site, it’s on Brown School Road behind McDonald’s on the east side.

Developers broke ground on the $2.1 million project in January, but of course, weather delayed construction. First it was the 2 feet of snow, Pomerenke said, then it was the bitter cold, then the process repeated and repeated and … OK, let’s forget about the winter already.

The hotel will create about 15 part-time positions and one full-time manager, and the hiring process should start in June.

Meanwhile, you can start making reservations online for your friends and family visits.

How will having a hotel in town help your family or business?

It's also too bad that they do not want my business, or the other 20% - 25% of Wisconsin's adult population who are smokers.
Oh, well. I never thought of Evansville as a vacation getaway spot anyway. I'll go to the Northwoods instead.

It's to bad it isn't opening in time for graduation.

Who has enough gas money to drive to Evansville anyway?
