Round-up ready weekend
Every spring the Tall Man says, “Don’t mud it in!”
He’s referring to the practice of mucking around in your garden before the soil is dry enough to work with.
Walk around on that soil too early, or start turning it over, and the moisture in the soil and the cold—when it eventually returns, and it will, believe me—will turn your garden bed into a concrete block.
That’s the worst-case scenario. If the warm weather continues—and that would be a miracle on par with the loaves and fishes—you’ll have a head start on the garden.
Try and remember that it’s only March 17. The last frost date is almost two months away.
Still, I’ll expect every self-respecting gardener to be out in his or her yard this weekend.
What are your plans for the weekend?
I’m going to serve a Round-Up cocktail to the garlic mustard in the woods.

Keep in mind when you use something like roundup to indiscriminately kill all the vegetative shade in an area, the first thing to germinate, in a new sunnier area, is typically an invasive species like Garlic Mustard.

Please don't promote the use of roundup. If not because other countries have wisely banned Monsanto products, or if not because roundup is shown to be producing Superweeds, then because current research shows Roundup stays in the soil for 20-30 years. Soil in which your children will be growing their food. http://motherjones.com/tom-philpott/2011...

Since you mention "Round-up", I feel compelled to comment on Monsanto, dubbed "the Most Evil Company on the Planet". They are intentionally bankrupting small farmers all over the planet, with their "Round-up Ready" genetically modified seeds infecting the natural crops of food the world over. Farmers in India are commiting suicide by the hundreds because it's better for their families to get a death benefit than to try to stand up to Monsanto. Here's one link from Dr. Joseph Mercola, a leading critic of Monsanto.

I would urge you to get his emails, and/or like his facebook page.

I used a bit of Round-up today also. I had ornamental grass that got quackgrass mixed into it. I got away with it for a couple of years, but today was the perfect time to dig up those grasses, spray round-up and start the bed all over again

Watching the NCAA basketball tourney. There will be plenty of time for yardwork as I am retired. The tourney only happens once a year.

Raking, Dog Poop, and cutting down the branch that slaps my neighbor in the head every time she mows.
