Delicious, delicious cheese 'n' soil casserole
In gardening news:
About a week ago, I started a variety of veggies and flowers from seed. One—and only one—seed has sprouted.
I planted easy-to-grow annuals such as zinnias, nigella (love-in-a-mist) and bachelor’s buttons.
Why start such easy flowers so early? Because I want lots of them, and I’ll be planting additional seeds on May 20.
And—this is more to the point—between May 25 and June 25, I’m ridiculously busy in garden. I’ll plant flower seeds and then forget to weed or thin them.
Or, even better, I plant them, forget where I’ve planted them, and then plant something over them: Look, my watermelon seeds have sprouted! No wait, those are state fair zinnias! No wait, those are weeds!
This is not what meant by “intercropping."
I also planted prairie plant seeds including compass plant and cup plant. They got tucked into their soil beds, watered and put in the fridge to “stratify.” Some seeds need to undergo winter-like conditions to break their dormancy.
I just hope the Tall Man doesn’t mistake the tray of seed-starting mix with some sort of casserole that would taste “just fine” if it was smothered with shredded cheddar cheese and served with Tator Tots.

6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20: Perennial Division with Becky Nickel. She’ll provide a lecture and demonstration regarding the timing and methodology for successful perennial division for a wide range of plants.

I am so anxious for Spring to get here that I have ordered and received seeds for Morning Glories, Zinnias and Sweet Peas. Don't have artificial lights, so guess I'll wait till May! :(

I'm gonna be extra careful if I ever go to a potluck and you bring a cheesy, tater-totty casserole....
