Next year's colors are.... (drum roll please)

By CATHERINE IDZERDA ( Contact )   Wednesday, October 21, 2009 - 11:14 a.m.

Red and maroon! Woo hoooooo! On Saturday's work day about two dozen volunteers planted 3,500 bulbs in front Rotary Botanical Gardens main building.

Horticultural manager and bulb-spacing fuss pot Mark Dwyer told us that next year's color scheme for the front entrance would be red and maroon.

One year they did blue and orange and got all sorts of guff for using Chicago Bears' colors, Dwyer said.

"We're never doing that again," Dwyer said ruefully.

A special thanks should go to Milton 4-H who brought two teams of hardworking young people for the effort.

Also there was Bob Yahr, the man who got the gardens started. After all these years, he's still willing to pull weeds with a pack of dirt-covered volunteers.
