Fantasy deficiency
Clearly, there's something wrong with me.
I just cannot get through "Lord of the Rings."
I know a lot of people who practically worship J.R.R. Tolkien, including my husband, my mother and some really close friends. So when the "Lord of the Rings" movies came out, I went out and spent $45 on a nice boxed set of the books.
After about four months, I quit halfway through the first book. And I barely made it through the movies.
The reason I'm thinking about all this is because I have free tickets to see the second "Chronicles of Narnia" movie tonight, and I kind of link the two series together in my mind. I remember reading "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" years and years ago in school, but I've never had any desire to read the rest of the series.
So, what is it I'm not getting? Am I missing some gene that makes one appreciate great works of fantasy?

I'm with stacey and morgansmom. I love the Harry Potter series, but I just can't get into "Lord of the Rings" or "Narnia". I even bought the Narnia book series and haven't cracked open a single one.

I'm one of those people who likes some fantasy and dislikes other fantasy; likes some sci-fi and dis-likes other sci-fi...not really gung-ho about either genre but willing to give them a chance. I can understand not being able to get into the Tolkien books...they are hard to read, but Harry Potter, on the other hand, is so well written that those books are hard to put down. This is a case of "it depends on the author." I think my biggest fantasy faves are the Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series.

Never fear, I'm almost halfway through the last one.

Does this mean you're not finishing the Harry Potter series? And, yes, that's all I think about.

How can you be missing that gene? I love fantasy.
