Austen alert!
OK, anyone who's read more than one or two Cover to Cover posts knows I'm a Jane Austen fanatic. I've read all her books, seen most of the movies and even read some books about Jane Austen books.
So I was super excited to learn that UW-Madison Prof. Emily Auerbach is coming to Hedberg Public Library on Saturday at 1 p.m. A copy of her book, "Searching for Jane Austen," is sitting on my shelf, and I'm hoping to get her to sign it Saturday. In the book, she examines each of Austen's novels and makes you see themes you never noticed before, even though they should be staring you right in the face. (Or maybe that's just me.) She also goes on a rant about people who try to feminize Austen or make her seem like a sweet, kindly maiden aunt instead of the biting, witty, brilliant woman she really was. (Don't refer to her as "Jane" in Auerbach's presence.)
Anyhow, thought you might like to know. Hope to see you there!
