Everything's better with bacon.

By BETH WHEELOCK   Thursday, January 13, 2011 - 4:14 p.m.

Is there a food that cannot be improved with bacon? I wonder this as I recall the bacon pancakes I made last night. Ok, that's not much of a stretch. They're both of the breakfast variety. But bacon also makes some veggies more palatable. Cold salad? Bacon bits. Baked potato? Bacon. Ice cream? I bet they used bacon on an Iron Chef America episode.

Peanut butter? Bacon.

My grandma used to make peanut butter and bacon sandwiches for us. (In retrospect, this might have contributed to my grandpa's triple-bypass surgery). They were served warm on toast.

What's your favorite bacony food?

Nothing like a simple BLT with the first ripe tomatoes off the vine, or simple fried egg and bacon sandwich on whole wheat toast.

Far and away the best bacon in the world is from Neuske's in Whittenburg WI, as small town east of Wausau on Hwy 29. If you get off the highway they have a great little store, and the smoke house is right across the street.

Oh, and I'm not opposed to having bacon on my potatoes (hash browns, baked, mashed, ff's, southern fried), pork chops, beef (burgers, filets, t-bones, ribeyes), corn, green beans, etc., etc., etc. However, I'm not sure about the ice cream thing . . .

Favorite bacony food? Why, bacon, of course. Hormel has thicked-sliced bacon in those 3-pound packages. Oink-oink-oink. That's pigese (pig latin) for yum-yum-yum!

Beth, my son is going to LOVE this blog! When he was about 10 he wanted to open a restaurant and call it "Everything Bacon". Apparently there are many people with this fascination for bacon...

And only 40 calories per slice - little known fact., so that's like having a yogurt at breakfast if you have like 4 slices!

Now they have the nitrate free bacon - Hormel has one, and I think Oscar Mayer too.

I love bacon!!! Bacon has never done me wrong. Did you also know that the fat connection with heart attacks, etc... hasn't actually been proven? I guess there's very little evidence at all (and fantastic low fat marketing opportunities, so there you have it). I read this in one of Pollen's books, and then saw it somewhere else.

I find it very amusing that the advertisement at the bottom of this page (as of today, anyway) presents foods you should NOT eat so you can cut down on belly fat.

Tee-hee!
