Feast on this!
With a few quick flicks of the wrist, a young blond Native American boy becomes X-Men's Wolverine! Raaawwwrrrr! Watch how the brightly colored feathers of his headdress turn into Wolverine's steel blades! Watch as he menacingly...asks Miss Beth if he may please have seconds of the corn.
Yes, Braxton. And thank you for using your manners.
In case you're not among the 465 people I've told, I get to help out in Ms. Drach's 2nd grade class at Wilson School. Usually, I go on Thursdays, busting out my freeze tag and reading skills. It's pretty much amazing. Monday, however, we had A Big Day. All the 2nd graders (in their Pilgrim and Native American headgear) helped cook a Wilson Thanksgiving meal. Then we all sat at one long table in the cafeteria and chowed down.
Volunteers provided the food and the cooking guidance for the kiddos.
The kids at Wilson constantly impress me. On a normal day they're funny, bright and caring. On Feast Day, they all remembered to use their manners, tried new foods, and helped each other out. (Especially when I was too full for my pie. Thanks, ladies!)
The only downside to Monday's experience: I did not get to play outside at recess since I was cleaning up the mayo, peas and cheese from our salad assembly table.
But you kids better believe I'll be out there next week!
(And for those who want to join in the fun--I bet they can still use volunteers at Wilson.)

Well, Frank, I have an inkling your observations will be a bit more serious than mine. But feel free to use the Wolverine reference in your story. You're welcome. ;)

Gosh, Beth, you scooped me. Well, we'll have an article and photos about this in Wednesday's pre-Thanksgiving edition of the Gazette. Also, we'll have a video that captures some of the awesome-ness of these kids and their helpers.

Thank you for your simple expression of the joy of volunteering and working with kids. The world would be a better place with more volunteers and more people taking interest in kids. You are an example to us all.
