Christmas noms

By BETH WHEELOCK   Tuesday, December 21, 2010 - 1:32 p.m.

Someone brought in coffee cake to work today. To preserve his anonymity, we'll call him "Jamin A". Oh, wait. That's too obvious. Let's call him "J. Arn". Ok. Anyway. I decided to justify it because I finished the veggies in my lunch, and because I got the blueberry cake with almonds on top. That means it's healthy, right?

Similarly, I ate a lot of fondue the other night because I also ate fresh veggies. I can justify pretty much anything, apparently.

With the Christmas season, acquaintances are randomly telling me how much they're overeating and how much weight they've gained.

Thanks for sharing.

Are you careful not to overeat over the holidays? Or do you chalk it up to the holiday season and tell yourself you'll do better in January?

sigma- I see I need to explain this better.
If you eat 6 small meals that are EQUAL to three larger meals of the same amount as the 6 you will burn the calories better than if you ate the 3 large meals. Look it up it is true.

Snacking in MODERATION versus one large meal is better for you. But if you are eating all day it is no different. I guess it depends on what one rerfers to "large" as.

sigma- actually snacking all day vs one big pig fest IS better for you. You are more likely to burn off the smaller more frequent meals calories throughout the day vs the one big meal.

Sigma40--Why is it different? Two words: free food. I wouldn't normally buy all those cookies and cake, but when it's free it's verrrry tempting.

The trick is that, with snacking all day, you don't completely feel lousy afterward, as you give your body time to digest some of it. But it's not just the calories...it's the additional salt, sugar, and fat that can also really put a strain on your whole system...but, January 2 is just days away (who really starts their diet on January 1 when it's still a holiday?)...

Snacking all day is no different than gorging yourself in one meal. Calorie intake would still be high or the same in both.

while i never really "diet" persay, i've done some portion control and i've written down what i was eating, in an attempt to be more healthy overall. right now it's pretty hard for me to track everything because there are so many snacks in my office's breakroom...and many of them are delicious!

as long as i don't gorge myself on everything, i'll be fine! ;)

And if it's true that diet chemicals pickle my organs, I welcome the improvement.

Saw this posted on Facebook earlier today. "Too many people worry about what they eat between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day when they should worry about what they eat between New Year's Day and Thanksgiving."

I heard if you use diet Coke you can put in more rum and still be "good".
