Young Professionals looking for opportunities to volunteer in the community will find no shortage of things they can do in the next couple months.

Here's a list:

Friday, Sept. 18: Downtown Janesville Clean-up Day. This event is from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. behind the Old Towne Mall and includes a complementary lunch for volunteers at the IBEW. Volunteers should show up to help out with clean-up work.

Friday, Sept. 25: YWCA Walk a Mile in her Shoes. This event--in which men walk one mile in women's shoes to help raise money for the YWCA of Rock County--starts and ends at Kutter Harley-Davidson and includes a party afterward. Go to www.ywcawalkamile.org for more information.

Saturday, Sept. 26: The Amazing Race to Restoration. This event is a scavenger hunt through downtown Janesville to raise money for the preservation of historic architecture in Rock County. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the race starts at noon at the Janesville Farmers Market. Call Rich Fletcher at (608) 314-5557 or e-mail citizenpreservation@gmail.com for more information.

Saturday, Oct. 10: Step Out, Walk to Fight Diabetes. This event to raise money for the American Diabetes Association starts and ends in Palmer Park. Registration is at 9:15 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Go to www.diabetes.org/stepout for more information.

Young Professionals are also taking part in Janesville's Large Item Pickup October 3. We are forming teams. Expect a future email with more information. :)

Saturday, October 10th, 9am starting at Rotary Gardens in Janesville and eventually moving to Milton to pick seeds from the established native prairies located at the high school as well as Crossridge park.

Milton Parks Ad-hoc committee will continue the 7yr tradition, but this year we have been asked by Milton DPW and Wisconsin DOT to plant a 6-7 acre area along the new Hwy 59 expansion on on Milton's east side. The area will be planted at the end of the project by the MECCA students as a class project. We have about 3 acres of seed ready to plant from last year, but we need your help! More information as well as pictures of our already established prairies containing wild grasses and flowers native to this area in full bloom can be found at:
