Will James Koepp ever confess to the triple homicide?

By TED SULLIVAN   Monday, February 8, 2010 - 10:54 a.m.

James Koepp could bring more closure to the victims' family and law enforcement if he admits to the killings when he is sentenced in April.

He could tell people how he killed Danyetta Lentz and her teenage children, Nicole and Scott, all by himself.

He could tell the truth about the slayings and explain his motive.

Koepp, however, will likely maintain his innocence.

He will likely appeal his conviction.

He might not talk about the murders for years.

Until then, we'll never know how or why he did it.

We can only speculate.

Some points to ponder...
1. Neighbors' DNA was tested. As stated, the DNA on the knives could have been there for a while. Those of you who attended the trial saw the condition of the trailer. The residents were not clean people. They could easily have washed the blade and not the handle.
2. Do research on Koepp. He has a history of assault with a knife going back at least 27 years. He was convicted of sexually assaulting two women at knife point in 1983 and he also assaulted another female (14 years old) at knife point prior to 1983 but was not charged.
3. Explain his DNA on the shower head and on the shower scrubby. Also explain the victims' blood on his shirt and his pants... the clothes he willingly gave the sheriffs.
4. In the recordings played in the courtroom he stated "I didn't mean to hurt them."
Those of you who keep believing someone else did this... did you attend the trial in person as I did?

hoya and catdog, too bad neither of you can state exactly why you believe what you believe. If you could, your stance might have something like the quality of being persuasive.

catdog, an expert DNA witness for the DEFENSE conceded that there was no way of telling when the unknown DNA was left there -people leave that kind of DNA everywhere they go. And there was no other evidence of anyone else being there during the murders. Also, Koepp wore the vitims' socks on his hands to avoid leaving finger prints.

Acordingly the crime lab found two other persons' DNA on the murder weapons but not Koepps'. Heven't heard if they are looking for anyone else as "they already got their man"!

What indicates that he had an accomplice?

hoya, is it your point that Koepp didn't do it? His DNA was under the finger nails of the victims. Their blood was on his pants.

Is it your point that he had an accomplice(s)? If he did, he should have informed us at the trial.

And the defense's own expert DNA witness said that there was no way to tell when the DNA you mentioned got on the knife.

Why haven't Koepp's neighbors been tested for the unknown dna on the knife handle ???

Will Daniel Kutz ever admit he did killed too??

Not if there is ever a remote chance of getting out.

That is too bad, as his kids still deserve to know where he dumped thier mothers body.

I never want to be in the same "group" as this Koepp guy. I pray that he gets his justice. He is the only one to answer for his acts on Earth when it comes to his Judgement Day.

I HATE the word "closure." This isn't a stained sweater that is being replaced, they are loving, caring people who were brutally taken away from us. That word is such a misnomer, this is not a permanent door that never opens again. They will always be on our minds, "closure' sounds like we can now forget about it from now on. I know I will never forget my dear friend and her children. Love you guys!

In his mind he has nothing to gain by confessing, no sentence reduction, all he can hope for is a miracle with an appeal. He's done.

Ask yourself the same question, would you come clean?

There is an opportunity for a statement at sentencing during the victim impact portion. It is possible that a perpetrator will use this to attempt to get a minimum sentence by offering something that the court and/or victims want. A confession may not add much to the situation and certainly would be problematic if Koepp wishes to pursue an appeal.

Ted- This guy had his day in court, motive was shown and he was found guilty by a jury of his peers. I would think the victims family have heard enough from Mr. Koepp

If he tells himself he's innocent often enough he may actually come to believe it.

More closure? What does that mean?

Either there IS closure or there is NOT.

No one ever confesses to anything. Just go to a prison and ask the inmates if they are guilty.
