2levelheaded I did not tell anyone what to do.
I merely pointed out that the now 'former' VP was doing things illegaly that are now coming to light. If the "former' board members involved in that administration want to continue in that vein, they certainly are allowed to, at their own peril.

You must not of checked Darien, because Metzner spent $21,000 of your tax money on a police squad without asking your permission. He did it without a village board vote too and that pretty much seems like a dictatorship to me.

I too give credit to copperguy and thanks for sharing. This situation right now is so complicated.
I think the current board members who are left over from the Metzner administration need to get on board with the new VP and quit fighting her.
To do so would be in their best interests and the benefit of the village. To not do so would be ill-advised. The citizens they represent are now aware of whats gone on previously. Their reluctance to go forward and help solve problems as a unified board will not go over well. Especially if Metzner's actions could cause legal problems for them. The residents eyes are on them now.
I also thank Mr. Spoo for his past service as a trustee. He was a great community advocate and had great ideas. No apology is necessary - who knew Metzner would decide to become an autonomus governer of this village? He became somebody nobody voted for and who knows why? Spoo fought an unwinnable fight with determination and heart.
I also agree that new legal representation of the village is CRUCIAL right now. And if the left over board members from Metzner's administration vote against it - then they are in denial of the current village lawyer's missteps. In which case they should all be recalled because of incompetance.
Also Danz should have known better and had Konopski already reinstalled. Didn't happen. Don't want to pay more legal fees to him as a result of his failure to comply.
Let's end this legal circus and get someone good - yes, Wassel out of delavan. He is a good legal mind that's what we need.

This IS a wrongful termination. First of all, LEGALLY. A village board cannot fire a chief. By law.
Second of all - he was supposedly suspended because of the cameras. Are you with me so far?
But the cameras were not illegal. So they had to find something else. It took 3 months for them to build a case on 'e-mails'.
That is unprecedented and ridiculous. This chief has been one of the most highly respected in this county, he has over 20 years dedicated to this community, a spotless record, and has repeatedly saved the village money by running his department as financially responsible as is possible.
Can you not fathom that the punishment should fit the behavior - no matter who it is or what job they have?
Do you have kids? If one tells you a lie, would you consider grounding them for 6 months for doing so?
I have received personal e-mails at work, have you? It doesn't mean I view pornography or spend all day on e-mails.
I have read the descriptions of the e-mails by the newspaper articles. I think I might have seen some of them come in my own e-mail. The Obama jokes are no more 'racist' than the ones from those during the Bush administration comparing George's face to that of a chimp. They are 'political' - not racist.
And have the computers of the village clerk, the court clerk and the other officers been examined as thoroughly or is just one person being singled out? (Remember, the computers are networked and connected.)
This is clearly a mountain out of a molehill. In the end, I believe DeVoy will be back at work on July 21.
Your hostility and unwillingness to view things with an open mind seem to indicate some sort of vendetta on your part.

These new people are trying to make a change. Etten did her homework and was preparing to save citizens money by lowering their legal costs.
Why wouldn't you want the costs in Darien lowered?
Do you know that Wenzel is 83 years old? He has been obsessive about his involvement in village politics even though he had failed businesses. How does that do the village any good?
He's part of the reason why this village is in dire straits, we have crumbling and decrepid old buildings in our downtown. That happened on his watch.
He won't quit and let newer minds take the helm and improve the lives of residents. How selfish an old man is he?

If I remember correctly that was right before she was about to be sworn in as a trustee. Wasn't she the one who made waves accusing OTHERS of having 'an agenda'?
What a hippocrite! Apparently she was GLAD Konopski got fired?
Darien residents better watch out for that one.
