People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

It seems as though this article was posted almost a year ago. I think it would be interesting to revisit this topic with the current economic situation, etc. In addition, I really think it would be interesting if you can get one of the top notch photographers at the Gazette to do photos with it and we can compare them to the photos and the stories that the Edgerton group and Wrestling the World are going to encounter in Kenya over the next month+. Here is a thought, lets make it a series...You write the first article and we will write the second, if you want we can even focus on the 4 points of Dr Haveman.

I like the discussion here and have had it many times before with others. What about the argument that people can have different interests, some like to help here and some like to help abroad? I really dont think that it is a question of being trendy. I think there are enough places around to help both locally and globally and there will always be people everywhere that need help.
