On Crosswalk where Janesville teen hit draws scrutiny

Posted on January 5 at 7:06 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I would feel really dumb if those were my kids dressed in shorts and plastered across the paper for all to see. Isn't there a dress code/expectation for winter? Where are their hats? I know this isn't what the article is about but it's really hard not to notice this. Appropriate winter clothing is definitely a safety issue too.

On Medicare penalties won't hit county's hospitals

Posted on October 5 at 9:01 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Perhaps there may be a push to send patients home by some hospitals and there may be times when patients aren't given the most thorough education as they leave. However more so than not in my experience most hospitals have numerous personnel advocating for the patient from social workers, family members, physicians, nursing staff, therapists who raise concern to prevent early discharge. I feel this is not the problem but its more often simply a decline in the patients health or poor compliance on the patients part of why a patient might require rehospitalization. I feel the fines are really an unfair reflection of a hospitals care.

Great article. Love to hear about local talent going for the big time. Keep going for your dream.

On Edgerton skatepark to stay in limbo

Posted on September 16 at 11:02 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Bring back the skate park!! You're only hurting the kids. If you have a problem - find out the names of the problem kids & get them banned. Eliminating the park all together is not the answer.

On State worker fired after email about free ID's

Posted on September 8 at 10:16 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

It was a work related email too - DMV/ID's. It actually makes me really mad that laws like this can exist - don't tell them they can get it for free unless they ask. He was probably just completely miffed and as angry as I am - and felt obligated to educate his co-workers. Hopefully he gets recognition for his whistleblowing and is compensated. With all of this attention to his firing - the supervisor can thank himself for everyone knowing about the free ID!

On Sauk County supervisor won’t apologize for comment

There must be something to it if there is an article about it. I'm not calling for the guys head and I honestly don't think he means to offend anyone. He simply needs to be educated about the word. It has a negative connotation and has no place in conversation, especially in the public domain. There is a way of speaking intelligently without using the word "jewed". I am amazed too at how many people feel the need to defend the word and make notations about political correctness, etc. It's about respect.

I can see how some might see it as no big deal especially if you hear it in regular conversation. I know people who use this term myself, but I cringe when I hear them say it. It is a wrong to say "jewed" because it is derogatory to Jewish people. "Jewed" implies that you used tacts to haggle down a price, such as a Jewish person might do. This is negative and unfair and attempts to stereotype the business practice of Jewish people. This is why the term "jewed" is offensive. Say haggled, dealed, or bargained instead.

That is so rude and ignorant to make such a statement. If this was my County board representative I would be embarassed for him. It's sad he doesn't see it as offensive. I expect more from people in the public eye.

On My kid’s been arrested! Tips for what to do next

Posted on September 1 at 11:46 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this article. Are there greater numbers of juveniles in Rock County being arrested as compared to other areas? If that is the case - you should have an article about that too. What are they being arrested for? What can parents and the community do to reduce the incidents? Get to the root of the problem. (you could do a "series" on juvenile delinquents.)

On Rock County Board delays coroner decision

My comments mean not to reflect on the job the current county coroner has done but I definately think Rock County would be better served by a hired/appointed medical examiner/coroner than an elected one. I find it odd that someone with very little experience can be "elected" to such an important job.
