On Milton could OK ordinance fines for run-down rental properties

Posted on July 20 at 7:56 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

As a rental property owner within the city limits, Ms. Lader should have, and really must, abstain from any and all votes that relate to this ordinance.

On Tea party rally in Racine draws estimated 3,200

Posted on September 12 at 10:31 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Superdave. Where were these tea party people when Bush/Cheney and the Republican Congress were spending this country into oblivion with an unfunded war, passing tax breaks for their cronies, and de-regulating the banking and oil industries so the rich got richer and the rest of us got screwed?

Let’s talk Dave! Rampant waste, overspending… Total cost of Iraq/Afghanistan wars since 2001! $1,078,197,742,820. A good share of that money went to Halliberton and its subsidiaries. Who do you think is paying for that! You and me Dave! Smaller government, aka de-regulation, do the names Goldman Sachs and AIG ring a bell! We’re footing the bill for that one too! Google BP and Halliberton will be there.

The supposedly “conservative” Bushies did not run this country into the ditch; they drove it off a cliff! Now George and Dick are enjoying the good life; writing their memoirs on luxury ranches in Texas and Colorado while the rest of us worry about saving our homes from foreclosure and our retirement savings from disappearing completely. Thanks boys. Have a nice life!

Let’s talk about the war in Iraq a little more; 4,420 brave US soldiers killed, 31,926 more seriously wounded. Don’t forget the countless young men and women who live with PTSD and the thousands of military families who sacrifice and suffer as well. Then there’s that number; $1,078,197,742,820.

Angry, damn right Americans should be angry! George and Dick’s “shock and awe” show may well have cost this nation a strong economic future. Tea partiers have the right idea; they’re just a little weak on the facts…

On Milton teacher contract dispute in arbitration this week

Posted on June 24 at 5:31 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

jv92 and dtb. Don't forget, teachers work 9 months out of 12. Doing the math, 29K for 9 months amounts to just under $39K if that teacher worked year round. On top of that they get a full 12 months of insurance benefits. Do the math on that one and it's a pretty good gig!

On Study reviewing facility needs in Milton

Dear usual suspects. If Milton holds off a couple years, they’ll more than likely have plenty of storage space at the (soon to be defunct) ethanol plant. ww

On Goodbye, Consolidated?

Realist My point is there are multiple contributing factors to Milton’s dilemma; two of which are the union’s selfishness and the administration’s credibility. Simply put, if the administration had a better budget projection track record, maybe the union wouldn’t be so reticent about making concessions. ww

Kudos’s as well to Milton’s support-staff (they’re all non-union) who are taking an involuntarily pay freeze for 10-11; just like they involuntarily opted for cheaper insurance a few years back. While they may not like the idea, most understand and accept that everyone has to carry their fair share of the burden in tough times, everyone but the union that is.
Yes realist, one can insinuate that the teacher’s unwillingness to see-the-forest-through-the-trees is a huge part of Milton’s budgetary dilemma. Almost as big as the fact that the accuracy of Milton’s past projected budget shortfalls lends new meaning to “fuzzy math;” re tedmlewis’s comment of April 8. Can anyone really trust the numbers with a track record like that? ww

On School closing may only save Milton schools $181,000

rossnmeg... You might have a point if the surpluses tmlewis speaks of had been planned for. Its true Milton's fund balance has had a long standing history of being statistically below average. However, the board has conscientiously worked to gradually improve it, without overburdening tax payers, for decades. But six and seven figure surpluses…no way can that be construed as responsible budget management! In fact, one could say Milton over levied those years. ww

Oh sure, bash the one person who has the guts to tell it like it is. The real culprit here is the MEA who has continually refused to “support education in Milton” by considering any reasonable contract concession when it comes to their Cadillac insurance benefits.

Don’t blame the messenger folks…blame your kids teachers for insisting on having their cake and eating it to.
