On Gov. Walker tells unions state will lay off workers

Gov. Walker stay the course, tough times call for tough decisions and actions.
myopinion his supporters are not out in droves because they have jobs that if they missed to demonstrate their support they would be fired.
Most of the teachers through out the state really only have their union to blame as most dictate last hired first laid off instead dismissing by merit and performance. Also, the amount they would save in union dues would offset some of their contribution towards health coverage and pension.
Now is the time to run government more like a business.

Everyone has not agreed to pay their fair share, several school districts and local governments are trying to push through contracts that maintain status quo. Collective bargaining, how's that working for the teachers that received layoff notices, your collective bargaining states last in first out instead of merit or performance.
A fix that will have public employees changing their tunes, tax them for their benefits above and beyond that of the what the average private sector worker pays. Example the vast majority of private sector pays 40-60% of their health care costs (if offered), they pay average of 5-7% into pension (if their company still matches it is average 2-4%). See how quickly the gravy train changes and they are willing to come down to earth and live like everyone else.
Now is the time and place government should operate more like a business than charity. If a business does not operate at a profit, banks will not lend money to continue and before all you place blame I am a long term unemployed person actively seeking employment that WANTS to work. Before being laid off because of economic times, my wages were frozen, company match to 401k was stopped and my contribution to health coverage was increased 9%.

Gee something else to look forward in June, when these same teachers piss and moan about a longer school year because of all the time missed that has to be made up. If it was truly about the kids you would return to the classroom and do your job like everyone else has to!!! Find time to protest after your work day is done just like those in the private sector has to do.

Teachers and government workers must get in line with the private sector employees, many who have had wage freezes, increase in premium contributions and increase in property taxes to support government employees and teacher wage increases all because they think they a entitled to yearly wage increases. Wake up, stop your complaining and be happy you have a job with benefits. Many people are unemployed and lost benefits and cannot afford COBRA or other coverage to only cover catastrophic claims.
On Obama to GOP: Restore unemployment benefits now

Forget about what side of the floor someone sits Republican or Democrat, every single one of them should have to try and get by on the average family salary and benefits. Oh and throw in loss of a job, see how fast they find acceptable funding to extend unemployment benefits. I have been unemployed for 10.5 months and would much rather be working. Having our household income slashed by more than half is no cake walk. For every position I apply I am now competing against 100+ applicants. So if you think they should not extend benefits I truly hope you NEVER find yourself unemployed for an extended period, you would probably be the first to be pissing and moaning.

On Fewer people apply for unemployment benefits

The long term unemployed in Wisconsin had their benefits end the week of April 16 because supposedly the unemployment rate in WI has dropped enough to trigger the 'off' switch and we were instructed to no longer file, so this is a false report. Until the government actually counts all unemployed whether they are eligible for benefits or not this will continue to give false sense of recovery.
