On Darien settles with police chief

Posted on November 11 at 11:06 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Wow. A man's job, his family, their future, and his mortgage are destroyed now.

Hope those 4 board members can sleep at night knowing what they did to the guy.

marolyn - If nobody cares, why do you still come back on here? You seem to contradict yourself. ( Again, mission accomplished.)

mymomma or whatever your name is-

The issues facing small communities are very important, and when they are dictated by only a few people ruling the rest, its like living in a Communist country.

If you don't care about their community, or want to solve a problem, why do you post here?

To be an uninformed ass?

Mission accomplished.

Board Member Abbott abstained? Get a spine, dude. Why is your wussy self even on the board? To sit the fence? Get a backbone and make a decision.

This is not your job, it's a public trust you should hold in the highest regard to represent the best interest of the people.

This is a classic example of what's wrong with politicians these days.

Same in Washington. Disgusting and self absorbed idiots.

There have been alot of facts posted here that really makes one wonder why and how this fiasco could have happened in the first place.

All the things the chief did for the village and still he gave back surplus budget money, why would you want to get rid of a conscientous and community minded guy like that?

Sounds like the Metzner VP was a self-absorbed egomaniac who did things his way, at his whim. How come nobody objected to that? Didn't anyone know?

Looks like the facts are coming out, though. I love lifeisawheel's terminology -

On Fired chief wants settlement enforced

Thank you citizenofdarien for showing this link on the other page and thanks to copperguy for filling in more details on this story. This is quite a soap opera going on!

Just from my knowledge of a small town in past turmoil, I think I can answer part of your question cmh.

If the village board asked the attorney to negotiate on their behalf for a settlement, and he did so, and the opposing attorney and him both agreed, that would be an implied contract. As it says above, the board then reversed course. Backed out. Did not honor.

That was a BIG mistake by the board. Could be an ace in the hole for the chief and possibly blow away everything else on the table. Could be a lawsuit, or several.

I don't know all the details but from what the paper says it seems he was fired under questionable terms at best and this has gone on for almost a year. That could be seen as almost cruel and unusual! The hearing examiner will take all the whole snowball of events into consideration and could very well decide the chief has been unfairly harrassed or targeted from the very beginning and he could start out fresh, reinstated and rich!

The article says the board voted to fire the chief on 'non-criminal' charges. First, I think its against the law for a village board to fire a police chief. Second, on non-criminal charges? What?
The town I grew up in also had these kinds of good buddies who ran the town for years and years on our board. These kind of people don't like to give up their power because not all their works are with best interest of their community. Beware!
Given enough leeway without checks and balances, they can destroy an entire town - in many ways besides financially.

Being a new manager, isn't he on probation? Seems like starting off on a very bad foot, bad publicity, bad attitude.
