On Is bike tunnel the best option?

The tunnel idea is a waste of time and tax money. The whole argument for the tunnel claims that there is a safety issue, yes? When was the last time someone was injured at this intersection? Is the argument of convenience for the joggers and cyclists not having to interrupt their workouts valid? One would think that if these individuals were that concerned about their health they would take the time to ensure their safety as well when they crossed the street.
Someone earlier mentioned that Janesville was not cyclist friendly. I beg to differ. Two major streets (milwaukee and wright) have had the most insanely ridiculous set of bicycle lanes painted in. Both streets also have sidewalks no less. But I digress. Point is: The squeaky wheel is gonna get the grease folks and all the tax payers are going to have to dig. Thank you city council.

On GM employment levels fall short of those needed for state grants

Thank you Zoom for enlightening Jonwayne89, jackson, and anyone else who doesn't understand that their taxes don't pay unemployment benefits. The employer does, and as far as the sub pay goes, that is paid by GM also as a negotiated benefit. As far as re-tooling for another product goes, I don't think that 10 Million would cover it. The plant is in need of a completely new paint shop in order to spray some of the paints now being put on the vehicles, not to mention the body shop tooling requirements of a smaller car. If the new Camaro takes off like it should I wouldn't be surprised if GM contemplates a second plant to build that. With the 6 cylinder option and possible turbo 4 cylinder on top of the v8 the customer base could be huge. All speculation of course. If the economy doesn't turn around there may be no point in building anything.

Diamondback on the 401k comment I believe you are incorrect. GM will be contributing to the new hires 401k. If I remember correctly it will be a dollar for every paid hour of work. Not much but....
On Milton couple arrested after calling police

My first question is why. Why, if they were wanted for felony bail jumping, would either one of them call the police to their house? Why, if they were wanted for felony bail jumping, didn't the police go get them from their house before they had a chance to call them for the domestic disturbance?

GreenGina8 .... First you complained that GM was not active enough in persuing alternative fuel technologies. When given examples addressing your complaint you turn around and claim that ethanol is not good enough due to corn usage, electric vehicles are no good because of the dirty coal used to make electricity, and finally the Volt apparently isn't the answer either because it uses some gasoline. So what exatly is the answer? You mentioned the use of switch grass as an alternative to corn....so therefore ethanol is an acceptable option to you if switch grass was used instead of corn, yes? Ergo with GM being the leader in the production of vehicles using ethanol GM is doing a good job persuing alternative fuel technologies. I guess(now that I am into this "discussion") my point would be that most of the people doing the complaining about the usage of fossil fuels seem to be the last ones to offer viable alternatives/solutions. By the way, how may I ask are you getting back and forth to work? For the sake of my blood pressure please tell me that you ride a bike or walk!

Zoom...Yes I work at GM, and have knowledge of the process. The numbers I used in my example may not be precise down to the second but they are fair.
Ekim8404...GM has not refused to build a Hybrid vehicle. A little research goes a long way.
GreenGina8...Have you ever heard of E85? Hydrogen Fuel Cells? Even electric/gas hybrids? GM is producing the most vehicles of any manufacturer with E85 technology. There are Mass Transit Vehicles being tested in major metropolitan areas of Washington DC and New York(if I remember correctly) at this very moment using Hydrogen Fuel Cells. And the Chevy Volt which is in development now and will be available in 2010 will be the most fuel efficient vehicle ever with a range of 600 miles per gallon of gas. Please don't spout off about GM not making use of alternative fuels. Instead, go to GM.com and take a look at the Volt, and the number of E85 vehicles available, and the strides GM is going to to reduce foreign oil dependancy. And take Ekim8404 with you.

Besides..... when I was a kid, crossing the street safely was one of the first things I was taught. It wasn't that hard to learn either. 35 yrs later I can still do it. If these people who are complaining about it can't grasp the concept ........ all I can say is Darwin.
Some of these issues are real life reasons that the kid who ate all the paste in Kindergarten never should have made it.
