On Is Rock County Veterans Court worth fixing?

Posted on May 15 at 2:24 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Military service should only be considered at the same time anyone else-sentencing. It should not mitigate the sentence drastically. If a person serves in the military but is not a generally good person, or is irresponsible etc, but now gets special consideration. Yet another never served and led a very positive life before making a mistake, gets much less consideration at sentencing? Military service (may be considered, sure....but not in a special court. It is too subjective and it may lack deterrence as well as sending bad messages.

On Five things to know about Janesville's new trash collection system

Posted on April 25 at 11:46 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I am keeping all of my old containers and using them up. I agree these new ones will be difficult during the snow plowing. I didn't want these this new system.

I wonder what is to stop people from throwing away all sorts of horrible things. At least before a person could view the garbage before tossing it into the truck. Now you could put anything into the container and it gets dumped without anyone looking at it. I won't do it, but oil filters, batteries whatever! I hope people are responsible.

On Flood resources

I just traveled Beloit-Newark @ Nelson. I did not drive south or west from the intersection. There was water approaching the road way on both sides just south of the auto salvage place on Nelson. No closure yet as of this evening. It could start to flood across during the dark. Bad enough road as it is!

On A ban on paper and plastic bags?

I agree with Sigma's post from earlier, but that would mean less union and left-wing paperwork being shoved into the mail box!

But seriously, there will be an increase of attempted and successful shoplifting incidents with these bags being brought through the stores. As someone else here was eluding to it may also pose a health risk, with bags that become very soiled being taken through the food isles.

On Rock County Sheriff's Office buying robot for use in SWAT situations

Janesvillean.....no matter what.... priorities! By the way we wouldn't be in this fiscal mess if the Doyles of the world knew what they were doing years ago. Again, priorities. I bet there is $ being spent in the county system wastefully, which could be used to help staffing.

Have no problem with furthering and updating equipment and progress (without being progressive), to help our officers who are our defenders. However, what is the the County / Sheriff's Department doing to properly staff it's corrections facility, I mean besides overtime and sending numerous offenders back home?

I agree with the other posts here though, this is a good idea.

On Protesters call Ryan's budget 'immoral'

I listened to his entire talk. He is correct and the left is wrong. I wonder why no one is pointing out the immediate damage likely to current seniors on medicare, once this obamacrap gets going in full swing with it's 'panel'.

Anyone who wants spoon-fed hand outs from the government and not responsibility/ true representation....simply chants and protests. Pathetic. Keep up the sincerity Mr. Ryan.

On Binding the Invisible Hand

....competition that is absent when government and the heavily regulated insurance industry....is exactly what true capitalist want to avoid and is also what Obama care will create more of. And yet we voted for that guy to produce more government involvement, which is what throws off all of the true incentive correlations. I am impressed with your courage but I disagree with the article's initial statements. I know two people with similar conundrums, and they see (real) capitalism as a solution. I agree with you about Obamacare. The country should not accept something so vague which affects us unwittingly anyway.

On Blackhawk Tech to host diversity speaker

I truly believe these ideals are over spoken and the 'tolerance' thing is not as much of a problem as it is insisted to be. We have equality with simple human tendencies mixed in there. We are Americans and the less we speak of differences, the less there will be. What exactly is 'tolerance' anyway? A distraction perhaps? I would rather a person speak of self initiative and positive strife so people are equal without being propped up. The best kind of pride yet...

On Gov. Walker hopes to bolster China connection

Are you listening 'concerned'. It is so we can build it, and China buys it! The opposite of what the usual concern is. At least that's what I take from this report. So the outrage is still against the idiot Doyle.
