Frogger,
Many of my friends are teachers in the JSD. None of them have refused to pay any increase in their benefits. I understand there are many, who for whatever reason, cannot or will not. But that's a broad statement saying: Yes I do find it interesting teachers wont contribute to their OWN retirement but expect us now to "donate".
I'm guessing you might not have meant all teachers, and I apologize if I'm being crass.

Best wishes Kori, on your new endeavors. Loved having you be my daughters teacher at Monroe and I loved working with you at Van Buren with Junior Achievement. You will achieve wonderful things wherever you go!

I agree that the Charter school and TAGOS will have to be moved out of their rentals. To do so, will most likely result in a school closing. How many elementary schools are near each other? I have not measured the distances, but aren't Kennedy and Harrison the closest in proximity? How many families have left those schools due to job transfers? I seriously think we need to consider one of those schools and not one of the four mentioned last week. And yes, it would completely stink for the teachers who would be trying to relocate within the district.... but it's obvious something needs to be done and I'm worried that the JSD is just sitting by, not wanting to be "the bad guy" just yet.
On Janesville School Board: Cut $6.5 million

I'm concerned about the comment I read in the article about guidance counselors meeting with the students at Craig: The school district has a list of courses that didn't meet the minimum size requirement after the initial sign-up.
Some courses that don't have enough students now might have enough students after students change their choices, Sperry said.
OK. How is that possible? You've told my daughter that three of her classes will not be available and she chose different courses (that will have NOTHING to do with her college major because all those electives were removed) and now you want me/us to think that those classes might just magically get more students because you've cut other classes? I think we've been fed some he said/she said.

I would have to agree with both of you. I definitely think that the advanced warning we had, enabled the city to plan ahead and have plenty of crews out plowing. Thanks for making our city streets safer!

Have the Mandarin Chinese teachers been hired? The board did everything they could to get Mandarin approved as the new foreign language... could that money have been spent more wisely?
