Justsaynotomath- I was at the office until 5:00 pm on Tuesday night and wasn't made aware until 7:15 Wednesday morning that the office would be closed. Everyone in our office made it home safe and sound with no problems. I definitely understand that safety must be taken into consideration, but some companies can't just close their doors.

Billnewbie- I'd like to go back through the FB account to see where Jack promised to change the name... do you have the date that it was posted there?

Vonnie I could actually hear your voice as I was reading your posts. Hysterical. I was reading through these posts and made note of some of the opinions... Joker, yours included. I'm proud to be a part of this fest, no matter what it be named. I will be pushing strongly to keep the location where its at and to keep the name, as while there are a few who argue against it, the turn out showed that there were enough that were for it. There are regular meetings, and Jack and Nicki and the neighbors would love to all share in opinions on what y'all think should be changed. I'm sorry that we didn't see you there, Joker, but everybody can't be every where or agree with everything that everyone does. That's what makes us a great people and a great nation.
Please feel free to post your suggestions on the RNF Facebook or MySpace page. I'm happy to provide any suggestions to the Herndon's if you'd like to email them to me through here. All in all, it was a great time with a great turnout, led by great people with a great support team.

Photogal... I think Napalm meant friends of Sam and the other two in the "Jeep type" vehicle, not the men on bikes.

Joker- Your link is taking me to a fantasy sports page... I'm happy to look, but I see nothing having to do with this festival. A little direction please.

"those Summerfest ethnic festivals you refer to are intended to attract both whites and minorities for the purpose of promoting understanding and tolerance between the races" I don't see, in the name of these festivals, where they are intended to attract both whites (European American)and minorities...
There are many different definitions and names for each of the different minorites, cultures, and ethnic variaties in this great nation of ours. Where I'm offended when you call me white vs European American, another may be offended at being called Black vs African American. A Redneck is a very diverse term and each person may chose to define it differently. Those who are negative here are the only ones who I have seen have a problem with this. You may be as opposed as you like because, again in this great nation you have the right to your opinion, but the show will go on as it has a few years previously... and hopefully will continue to go on in the future.

Actually Joker, of all of the types of parties that you just put out there... I, as a European American, would feel very comfortable attending because they would also be sponsord by area businesses, insurd, licensed, secure, places in which I could have a good time and learn about my fellow neighbors.

"Does anyone think the name "Redneck Fest" will make our African-American or Hispanic neighbors feel welcome?"
I don't see why it would make anyone feel unwelcome. It's not about the name as is so blatently explained in this print, on their website, as well as their myspace and facebook sites.
Let me ask you a question. Does the name "Germanfest" make a non german feel welcome? Would a European American feel welcome stepping into "ArabWorld" or "Mexicanfest". Each of these names poses the same threat to some as you feel Redneck poses to others. Some of the older generation fear the African American community... does that mean that we take away Black history month? In all actuality, there really aren't many minorities around anymore. Everyone is friends with everyone else and everyone has their own fears of the next person.

Seriously, this was another excellent year with some excellent bands, food, and people. I give great props to those who put this together and spend the time and effort to be on the RNF grounds for a month straight to get things set up. We've been partly involved in this event for the past 3 years and are happy to say that we will offer out backyard for as many years to come as needed!!
