Sudden Impact is a 1983 crime thriller and the fourth film in the Dirty Harry series, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood (making it the only Dirty Harry movie to be directed by Eastwood himself). The movie is probably best remembered for Harry's catch phrase, "Go ahead, make my day," often incorrectly attributed to the original film in the franchise.

Another way to put it...
The fact that you "feel good" when you help others is genetic. That gene exists today because it was beneficial to the branches of human ancestors that possessed it.

as for morality being "proof" of god...

"genes that get passed on are the ones whose consequences serve their own implicit interests (to continue being replicated), not necessarily those of the organism. This view explains altruism at the individual level in nature, especially in kin relationships: when an individual sacrifices its own life to protect the lives of kin, it is acting in the interest of its own genes."

"phenomena such as kin selection and eusociality, where organisms act against their individual interests to help related organisms reproduce, can be explained as gene sets "helping" copies of themselves to replicate. Interestingly, the "selfish" actions of genes lead to unselfish actions by organisms."

In other words, morality is a product of natural selection, and actually helps species survive.

On Senate Dems clear hurdle on health care

Stop kidding yourselves, none of you have any idea whether this will help the country or not. Just deal with it. I'll be surprised if some of you make it to year 4 with all the fits you've been having.

On New health care benefits come at a price

"United Health care (the biggest health insurance provider) soared 6.5% today alone, and is up near 30% in the last month as the signs of this bill passing become more and more evident."

The recent jump in health care stocks is because a real public option won't be in the bill. A bill with a public option would have been much more scary for health insurance companies.

"There are common sense and practice solutions that can be put in place without a colossal government control option needed. For those people removed from work (laid-off, transition, etc) there should be an option available to prevent lapse in coverages; thus preventing "preexisting condition" exclusions."

This doesn't solve the pre-ex problem. If someone on COBRA gets a disease, it will still be considered pre-existing when they sign a new policy, even though there was no real lapse in coverage.

Bill, that is definitely possible. Paul Ryan said so himself. But I would probably quit before taking a large pay cut.

Yes Bill, we will have to lower our rates to compete with the government plan (I work for an insurance company). And improve the actuarial value of our plans. This means better plans for the consumer at cheaper rates.

RAF, the new rules are being written to protect the consumer. If your current plan doesn't meet them, it probably isn't one that you want to be buying.

Swiss - you know what they meant. Pointing out a typo doesn't refute the point.
Assuming an accident does happen, SUVs are probably safer for people inside. But they also cause more accidents due to stopping distance and handling... and more injuries to other drivers due to increased size and force.
